Weekend update!
Saturday November 1, 2014
This blog entry will be really cold.
Oops! I mean short.
If you read our blog or see our Facebook page, you know that on Saturday we participated in the Unicoi Wine Fest just outside of Helen, Georgia. Can we just tell you - it was cold!!! And windy. We're talking serious wind. Another exhibitor's tent blew away. Thankfully, we had invested in tent stakes and cement blocks, so ours did not become airborne.
We knew going in that attendance would be off, and honestly from the way the Atlanta TV stations reported it, you'd have thought that we had 5' of snow. In Atlanta the word snow is tantamount to paralysis, at least on the roads. Who can explain why the newscasters get us all so worked up about the possibility of a few flakes? We just knew not to look for the same crowds we had at Foxfire.
The hardy, wine-loving souls who did attend, for the most part, loved our soap, and we managed to sell a good bit. So thank you to the die-hards who braved the wind, cold weather, and non-existent snow. You sampled some outstanding wine, listened to fantastic music, ate great food, and shopped with some frostbitten and windburned vendors who were very appreciative for your business.
We didn't take many pictures. It's not easy with gloves on (and scarves and four layers NOT including the long johns)...but here is what our booth looked like when we first set up. Please note the billowing table cloths; this was mild. At times the wind blew so hard we looked like a schooner in full sail.
But enough complaining. In spite of the cold and windy day we met many, many nice people, and actually had quite a bit of fun.
