Another bright and sunny North Georgia day.
NOT
The rain moved in last night and today it's crummy, spitting rain, overcast, and cold! Not sure what we expect in the middle of January, but several sunny days would be so nice!
We started out the day working on last week's video. We've had a time of it, trying to share huge files. Downloading and uploading video is another problem because our internet provider, whose initials I will share (WS), is so slow we literally could invent the wheel in the time it takes to do simple tasks. But finally we got it all figured out and loaded etc etc so you will hopefully be able to watch another video post sometime today.
To cheer ourselves up we decided to make soap, specifically another try at the butterfly swirl technique for the soap challenge. I gathered ingredients and Alison did the swirling.
We used Angel Baby from +Rustic Escentuals; it is one of our absolute top favorite scents . They describe it as follows: a soft, sweet woody-floral fragrance with azalea, jasmine, lavender and rose notes underscored by patchouli and other precious woods with hints of citrus and other fruits. Balsam and vanilla add rich sweetness.
Alison wanted to create swirling colors of wings and wind in the clouds, but we also wanted to choose bright and vivid colors as they seem to make swirled soaps more interesting and give them an imaginative pop. In keeping with bright hues, following are the colors for today's soap.
From +Bramble Berry 1982 Blue Mica, Fired up Fuchsia, Antique Blue Mica and TD. We added Icicle Mica from +Natures Garden to everything but the Antique Blue.
We wanted to keep one color dark as it definitely helps accent the finished soap.
Here are the colors mixed in oil.
The rest of the blog is in video form. We used a tripod today while filming. Our fingers are crossed that it will help us become better organized and at the same time more professional looking, at least in our videos.
Enjoy and please feel free to leave comments!
We did see a few examples of something that could look like butterflies.
At any rate, they are pretty and the fragrance is one that we can't get enough of.
Butterfly Wings will be cured on February 24.
Wow!! I love how you got several different looks from this one batch! It's an amazing butterfly likeness! Such bright, bold colors really set the whole thing off nicely. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Amy! We had so much fun trying out different color combinations and then seeing the variety of swirls and designs. Thank you for your kind comments!
DeleteSo many different butterflies. Love that last one the best!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cris! We love cutting the soap and discovering how different it is from one end of the loaf to the other. Thank you for commenting!
DeleteGreat swirls. The last one looks like a dragon swooping down from the sky. All of them are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the dragon description! We kept trying to see how many different things we could see in each swirl. So much fun! Thank you for your comments!
